Basic HTML Files Generated by FrameMaker

Q

What are basic HTML files generated by FrameMaker for my FrameMaker book? I have just used the "Basic HTML" publish function to generate them.

If you generated basic HTML files using the "Basic HTML" function, you can follow this tutorial to view them.

1. Open Windows Explorer and go the folder where the HTML files are saved: You see the list of files and sub-folders generated by FrameMaker:

\fyicenter\FrameMaker\FM-Book-Example\Basic HTML
|- FM-Book-Example.h                      - ?
|- FM_Book_Example.css                    - Display CSS styles
|- TPubTemp.ali                           - An empty file
|- FM-Book-Example
   |- FM-Book-Chapter-Introduction
   |  |- FM-Book-Chapter-Introduction.htm - HTML file for chapter 1
   |- FM-Book-Chapter-Basics
   |  |- FM-Book-Chapter-Basics.htm       - HTML file for chapter 2
   |- FM-Book-Chapter-Summary
      |- FM-Book-Chapter-Summary.htm      - HTML file for chapter 3

As you can see, "Basic HTML" publish function does not generate any index.htm file or toc.htm file. You only get one HTML file for each chapter (FrameMaker document) in your book.

2. Open FM-Book-Chapter-Introduction.htm in a Web browser. You see the content of the first chapter displayed as a Web page. It uses only HTML basic features.

3. Open FM-Book-Chapter-Introduction.htm in a text editor. You see the HTML code:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
 <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
 <title>FM-Book-Chapter-Introduction</title>
 <link rel="stylesheet" href="/../../FM_Book_Example.css"
    type="text/css" />
</head>
<body dir="ltr">
 <div dir="ltr">
  <p dir="ltr" class="FM_Heading1">Chapter 1. Introduction</p>
  <p dir="ltr" class="FM_Body">&nbsp;</p>
  <p dir="ltr" class="FM_Body">This is our first FrameMaker book. A FrameMaker
  book is a special document created in FrameMaker and saved in FrameMaker book format
  (.book).</p>
  <p dir="ltr" class="FM_Body">&nbsp;</p>
