IP (Internet Protocol) network is a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol to send and receive messages between multiple computers.

Today, almost all computer networks are IP networks. The world largest network, the Internet, is an IP network.

From network connectivity point of view, the IP network is made up of multiple sub-nets. Each sub-net represents a local physical network.

The picture below shows you an example of an IP network with 2 sub-nets: Network X and Network Y.

From network communication layer point of view, the IP network layer seats on top of the physical network layer. It in turn provides support the host-to-host and application layers.
