A higher order Bézier curve one or more middle slopes which defines how the curve passes through anchor points. Note that anchor points together with starting and ending points are all called "end points" in OpenOffice.

Here is how to see and modify middle slopes of a Bézier curve in OpenOffice.

1. Select the Bézier curve.

2. Click the "End Points" icon in the "End Points" toolbar. You see all anchor points of the Bézier curve highlighted.

3. Click on an anchor point, you see the slope for the anchor point. The slope represents the turning angle of the curve at the anchor point.

4. If the slope is too short to see, then curve is having a really very sharp turn at the anchor point.

5. Press down the mouse on a slope end and move the mouse to modify the slope.

6. Press down the mouse on an anchor point and move the mouse to modify the anchor point.

The curve changes as you move the slope end or the anchor point.
